Meg Lanning Nears 1000 Runs Milestone in Women’s Premier League

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 is set to feature its first double-header on Saturday, with two exciting matches lined up at the Dr. D Y Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. The first game will see Uttar Pradesh Warriors face off against Gujarat Giants, followed by Mumbai Indians taking on Delhi Capitals.

Uttar Pradesh Warriors captain Meg Lanning will have a special opportunity in the match against Gujarat Giants. Having captained Delhi Capitals in the first three seasons (2023-2025) of the WPL, Lanning joined Uttar Pradesh Warriors this season after the auction. Recognising her leadership and batting prowess, the Warriors have appointed her as their captain.

In her 27 innings across 27 matches in the WPL so far, Lanning has scored 952 runs, including nine half-centuries. If she scores 48 or more runs in the upcoming match, she will cross the 1,000-run mark in the league, becoming only the second batter to achieve this milestone. As an opening batter, she has a strong chance to reach this landmark during her innings.

Moreover, Lanning is closing in on becoming the second most successful batter in the league’s history. She trails Alice Perry by just 20 runs and will surpass her by scoring 21 runs. Currently, the only player with over 1,000 runs in the Women’s Premier League is the prolific net-scorer Ellyse Perry, who has amassed 1,031 runs in 30 matches, including eight half-centuries.

Saturday’s double-header promises thrilling cricket action and a potential historic moment for Meg Lanning as she aims to solidify her place among the league’s top performers.
