Lucknow, February 26: The political landscape has intensified following the Samajwadi Party’s (SP) announcement to celebrate ‘PDA Day’ on the occasion of BSP founder Kanshiram’s birth anniversary. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president Mayawati has launched a sharp attack on the SP, labeling it as anti-Dalit, anti-OBC, and anti-Bahujan.
On the social media platform X, Mayawati stated, “The announcement to celebrate ‘PDA Day’ in honor of Kanshiram is merely a political stunt.” She described it as a façade aimed at garnering votes from marginalized communities.
Mayawati emphasized that the SP’s actions have consistently been against the respect for BSP and Bahujan leaders. She pointed out that the SP’s history is intertwined with injustices and atrocities against Dalits and weaker sections, which cannot be forgotten. This move by the SP is seen as a strategy for the upcoming 2027 elections, as they had previously ignored these communities.
Recalling the 1993 SP-BSP alliance, she noted that the conditions to prevent atrocities against Dalits were not upheld. Mayawati also referenced the infamous June 2, 1995, Lucknow guest house incident, alleging that a life-threatening attack was orchestrated against her during the tenure of then Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The BSP leader further accused the SP of changing the names of districts and institutions established in Kanshiram’s honor. She claimed that names such as Kanshiram Nagar, Sant Ravidas Nagar, and the Urdu-Persian-Arabic University in Lucknow have been altered, which she views as disrespectful to the Bahujan community. Additionally, she alleged that the name of the hospital built in Saharanpur in Kanshiram’s name was also changed.
Mayawati accused the SP of adopting an anti-Muslim stance and highlighted the significant loss of life and property during riots that occurred under SP governments. She remarked that both the SP and BJP have bolstered each other’s political agendas, leading to adverse consequences for the state’s populace.
In her appeal, Mayawati questioned why the SP did not declare a state mourning upon Kanshiram’s passing.
