Washington, June 27: U.S. President Donald Trump is likely to visit India next year. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the Trump administration is preparing for the President’s trip to India in early 2027. This indicates a growing momentum in India-U.S. relations, as both countries are nearing the finalization of a bilateral trade agreement.
In an exclusive interview with a news agency at the White House, Rubio expressed his hope to visit India before the end of this year to prepare for the President’s proposed trip.
“I am looking forward to going to India before the end of this year and preparing for the President’s visit in early next year,” he said.
When asked about the possibility of Trump’s visit next year, Rubio replied, “We are hopeful. We are working in that direction so that the President can visit India in early next year.”
Rubio noted that the recent meeting between President Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G7 summit has strengthened India-U.S. relations.
“I think everything is going very well. Our relationship is quite strong. The meeting with the Prime Minister was very positive. The interaction between the President and the Prime Minister at the G7 was also encouraging,” he added.
The Secretary of State also expressed optimism regarding ongoing trade talks between the two nations. “We are hopeful of finalizing the trade agreement. We are in the final stages, and discussions are progressing positively,” he stated.
Rubio mentioned that Washington is also looking forward to the next meeting of the Quad leaders.
Describing India as one of America’s closest partners, he emphasized, “India is an extremely close partner and ally of the U.S. The personal relationship between the Prime Minister and the President is also very strong, which is crucial for diplomacy.”
President Trump last visited India in February 2020, where he and Prime Minister Modi addressed the ‘Namaste Trump’ event in Ahmedabad. Following that, bilateral talks took place in New Delhi.
Since that visit, there have been regular communications between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi. Both countries are working to deepen cooperation in trade, defense technology, and the Indo-Pacific region.
The U.S., India, Japan, and Australia are members of the Quad, collaborating on regional security, critical and emerging technologies, robust supply chains, and maritime security. Both Washington and New Delhi have described their partnership as one of the most significant strategic relationships of the 21st century.
