
Unnao, May 30: In a dramatic turn of events late Friday night, police in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, engaged in a shootout with a notorious criminal. The suspect was injured during the exchange of gunfire and has since been hospitalized for treatment. This individual is believed to be involved in a recent truck robbery incident.
According to Circle Officer Tej Bahadur Singh, on May 26, Rajesh Kumar Gupta from Kanpur reported to the Ajgain police station that his truck driver, Neeraj Kumar from Fatehpur, had loaded goods at Ashakheda in Soharamau and departed for Kanpur around 11 PM on May 25. The driver was tracked via GPS and was last seen leaving a toll plaza at 12:30 AM. However, an hour later, the truck’s GPS indicated it was heading back towards Lucknow. Gupta then set out in his car to locate the truck. Upon reaching the toll plaza, he found the driver Neeraj lying on the ground, but the truck was missing.
Following Gupta’s complaint, a case was registered at the Ajgain police station. To expedite the investigation, Senior Superintendent of Police Jay Prakash Singh formed teams to track down the culprits. They successfully recovered stolen goods and a container from Kushinagar, leading to the arrest of four suspects. One of the arrested individuals, Vikas, revealed that his accomplice and the mastermind behind the robbery, Chhuttan, from Motihari in Bihar, intended to target a Godrej warehouse again.
In the early hours of May 29-30, at around 3 AM, a joint team from the Ajgain police station and the Special Operations Group (SOG) received a tip-off about a suspicious person near the Gurudwara Road in Nawabganj, opposite Chandigarh University. Upon arrival, the police attempted to apprehend the suspect, but he opened fire. In self-defense, the police returned fire, injuring the suspect in his right leg. The suspect identified himself as Chhuttan Chaudhary and confessed to his involvement in the robbery case registered at Ajgain police station. Police recovered a .315 bore pistol and two cartridges from him. The injured suspect was then sent to CHC Nawabganj for medical treatment.
