Tehran, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : Iran’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, engaged in phone discussions with his Turkish and Saudi counterparts regarding security in the Strait of Hormuz. This conversation, reported by the official Iranian news agency IRNA, took place on September 6, 2026, and focused on ongoing diplomatic efforts to ensure safety in the strategically vital waterway.
During the calls, Zarif spoke separately with Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. They addressed various bilateral issues and the latest developments in the region.
The three ministers also deliberated on promoting stability in West Asia and the need to counter the insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz, which has been exacerbated by what Iran describes as “aggressive actions” from the United States.
These discussions followed recent naval skirmishes between Iran and the U.S. The U.S. Central Command reported that two American warships were targeted by ballistic missiles fired from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) while patrolling regional waters. In response, U.S. forces launched attacks on three Iranian oil tankers.
The U.S. military confirmed that an aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer successfully thwarted several unprovoked attacks from Iran, with no American personnel reported injured. The IRGC later acknowledged its retaliatory strikes, stating that it targeted three oil tankers and other vessels linked to the U.S. in the Strait of Hormuz.
Additionally, the IRGC claimed to have launched multiple ballistic missiles at the U.S. naval vessels, alleging that they had harassed Iranian ships and participated in a naval blockade against Iran. They also reported an attack on an unmanned surface vessel that attempted to enter a protected area in the Strait.
Tensions in the region continue to escalate, prompting calls for increased diplomatic engagement to address security concerns.
