Chandigarh, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Congress MP Manish Tewari has raised concerns regarding the deteriorating condition of roads in Chandigarh following recent rainfall. He pointed out that whenever it rains, the city’s roads suffer significantly, with some areas experiencing severe flooding. Tewari emphasized that Chandigarh is renowned as one of the country’s beautiful cities, yet the state of its roads after rainfall raises serious worries.
In addition to his remarks on infrastructure, Tewari also accused the government of increasing intolerance. He highlighted incidents where journalists faced harassment for asking questions in various parts of the country. Citing a recent incident in Delhi where a journalist was mistreated, and another in Sangrur involving a retired official being removed from a park due to a social media post, Tewari stated that such occurrences are troubling signs for democracy.
This criticism follows allegations made by two female journalists who accused the Delhi police of assault, claiming they were targeted due to their Muslim identity. They reported that while filming a video related to an event featuring Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, they were questioned aggressively by police.
The incident took place on September 3 during the inauguration of a private hospital in Saket, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah was also present.
In another political development, Congress MP Manoj Kumar has called for a zero FIR against Uttarakhand BJP leaders over the alleged “purification” controversy in Haldwani. He deemed the incident a disgrace to the entire nation, the Dalit community, and all representatives.
Kumar referenced BJP leader JP Nadda’s comment in Parliament, where he described the event as unfortunate and promised action. He questioned when that action would take place and when FIRs would be registered against the involved leaders. He noted that while a zero FIR was filed in Bengaluru, local police and administration in Haldwani have yet to take action. Kumar insisted that being in power does not exempt wrongdoers from accountability, urging the BJP and local authorities to conduct a fair investigation.
