New Delhi, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : New Delhi witnessed a significant event on September 5, as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta honored 118 teachers during the ‘Teacher Mahakumbh – State Teacher Awards 2026’ ceremony held at the Tyagaraj Stadium. This occasion not only celebrated Teacher’s Day but also marked a commitment to preparing schools for the future.
In her address, Gupta emphasized the vital role teachers play as the foundation of society. She noted that the recognition given to these educators reflects their dedication, patience, and unwavering belief in shaping the futures of their students.
“Teachers provide more than just textbook knowledge; they instill values, skills, self-confidence, and a sense of duty in their students,” Gupta stated. She highlighted that a teacher’s influence extends beyond individual students, impacting entire generations.
The Delhi government is dedicated to ensuring that every child in the city receives quality education that fosters knowledge, skills, values, and confidence. To support this commitment, a budget of ₹19,148 crores has been allocated for education in the fiscal year 2026-27. Gupta also mentioned plans to equip schools with technology and smart learning resources to prepare them for future challenges.
The event saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Delhi’s Education Minister Ashish Sood, MP Bansuri Swaraj, and various other representatives, along with senior officials and educators from different schools.
A total of 118 teachers were honored across various categories, including 20 school heads, 69 teachers from the education department and MCD schools, and teachers from three CM Shri schools. Librarians, special educators, and physical education teachers who made notable contributions were also recognized.
During the ceremony, NCC cadets presented a guard of honor to the Chief Minister, followed by a welcome song performed by music teachers. Students, dressed in traditional attire, also greeted the guests.
To enhance language and communication skills among students, Gupta announced the establishment of 170 modern language labs across Delhi schools, including 70 in CM Shri schools and 100 in other government institutions. She further explained that initiatives like ‘Foundation, Nationality, and Skill Resolution’ are being implemented to strengthen entrepreneurship, innovation, problem-solving, democratic values, and basic literacy and numeracy among students.
