Paramaribo, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Indian Ambassador Subhash Gupta recently paid a farewell visit to Suriname’s Foreign Minister Alva Baptiste, marking the end of his diplomatic tenure. During their meeting, they discussed ways to strengthen the bilateral relationship between India and Suriname.
The Indian Embassy shared details on social media platform X, stating, “High Commissioner Subhash Gupta met with Foreign Minister Alva Baptiste, Senior Minister Stevenson King, and Keithson Hermin Charles on September 4 to discuss enhancing bilateral relations.”
In addition to the farewell meeting, Ambassador Gupta had previously handed over Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) to local officials. A plaque commemorating these projects was unveiled in collaboration with Minister of Public Works and Spatial Planning, Stephen Tsang.
The embassy noted, “Today, India delivered a pedestrian safety project in Paramaribo under the QIP. The plaque unveiled by the Minister of Public Works and Spatial Planning and Ambassador Subhash Gupta symbolizes a significant achievement in the golden jubilee year of India-Suriname relations.”
Earlier in May, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar inaugurated a fruit processing facility in Paramaribo, funded through Indian financial assistance. This facility was established with machinery provided to Suriname as part of a $1 million grant announced by Jaishankar in 2025 for small and medium enterprises.
During the program, Jaishankar emphasized, “This project underscores India’s larger message as a partner of the Global South.” He reiterated India’s commitment to the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ which means the world is one family, stating that this commitment is demonstrated not just in words but through specific projects and initiatives, making it a prime example of such efforts.
