Imphal, April 4: Security forces have intensified their operations in Manipur, leading to the arrest of four dangerous militants from the Tengnoupal district on Friday. This district shares an unguarded border with Myanmar, according to officials.
A senior police officer reported that the militants were apprehended in Yangoubung village, under the jurisdiction of the Moreh police station. These individuals are associated with banned organizations, including the National Revolutionary Front of Manipur, People’s Liberation Army, and the Kangleipak Communist Party.
The arrested militants have been identified as 25-year-old Keisham Sumanta Meitei from Imphal West, 32-year-old Angom Somorjit Singh alias Nongshaba from Kakching, 26-year-old Yumkham Naoba Singh alias Shinasangamba from Imphal East, and 25-year-old Khundrakpam Shyamson Meitei alias Manganleiba from Thoubal.
Officials revealed that these militants were involved in kidnapping and extortion activities targeting traders, contractors, government employees, and ordinary citizens.
In response to the rising militant activities, both central and state agencies have ramped up their operations against these groups. Search operations and area domination drives are ongoing in several districts, particularly in mixed-population and vulnerable areas. To curb the movement of anti-social elements, a total of 117 checkpoints have been established across both valley and hill districts of Manipur.
Additionally, security escorts are being provided for vehicles, including trucks carrying essential supplies, on the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37). Strict security measures and convoy protection protocols have been implemented at sensitive locations to ensure safe passage for vehicles.
The Manipur police have urged citizens to disregard rumors circulating on social media and to avoid falling victim to fake videos.
In a statement, the police warned that the authenticity of any such video or audio clip should be verified through the Central Control Room. Legal action will be taken against anyone who uploads or circulates unverified content. The police also appealed to the public to return any stolen weapons, ammunition, or explosives to the nearest police station or security forces.
