Kolkata, April 4: Abhishek Banerjee, the National General Secretary of the All India Trinamool Congress, has launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the upcoming Bengal Assembly elections. In a post on the social media platform X, Banerjee questioned the BJP’s “double engine” slogan, labeling it a threat to democratic institutions.
He explained that the BJP’s real “double engine” operates in two distinct ways. The first engine is based on the misuse of democratic institutions. According to Banerjee, the Election Commission is weaponized to remove genuine voters from the electoral rolls, transfer honest officials, and weaken the administrative structure.
He also alleged that external individuals are illegally included to manipulate electoral lists.
Banerjee asserted that the BJP’s second engine focuses on exploiting various local parties and organizations for its benefit. He mentioned AIMIM, the Indian Secular Front, and the Aam Janata Udayan Party, accusing them of spreading communal tension, creating unrest, and attempting to polarize votes, ultimately benefiting the BJP politically.
The Trinamool leader claimed that the people of West Bengal have understood this strategy and will respond in the elections. He cited the support the party is receiving in areas like Jaipur, Sonamukhi, Indas, and Khanakul, stating that the victories of their candidates—Arjun Mahato, Dr. Kallol Saha, Shyamali Roy Bagdi, and Palash Kumar Roy—are nearly assured.
Banerjee emphasized that the state’s populace wishes to elect a government based on the principles of “Maa-Mati-Manush,” which works for the people’s interests. He accused the BJP of wanting to establish a government that is distant from the public, aligned with corporate interests, and disconnected from democratic values. He expressed confidence that the people of Bengal will once again favor the Trinamool Congress, ensuring stable and people-centric governance in the state.
The West Bengal Assembly elections will be conducted in two phases. Voting for the first phase will take place on April 23 for 152 seats, while the second phase will occur on April 29 for 142 seats. The election results will be announced on May 4.
