Mumbai, April 4: The weather in Jammu and Kashmir has taken a sudden turn. Due to the influence of a western disturbance, rain is falling in the plains and snowfall is occurring in the mountains, resulting in a drop in temperature.
In Baramulla, continuous rainfall has led to waterlogging on several sections of the highway. The Baramulla Municipal Council team is on-site, working to clear the flooded areas to facilitate smooth traffic flow. A local resident stated, “It has been raining continuously since morning, causing water to accumulate. This has created difficulties for people, especially school children, in commuting. However, the municipal team is actively trying to drain the water.”
According to the meteorological department, moderate to heavy rain and snowfall (in higher areas) are expected in some parts of Kashmir and Jammu on April 4. From April 5 to 7, the weather will be partially cloudy. Light rain and snowfall may occur in some areas on April 8 and 9. Heavy rainfall could lead to sudden flooding, landslides, and rockfalls in sensitive areas. Waterlogging is anticipated in some low-lying regions. Additionally, light rain or snowfall (in higher areas) may occur on April 10 and 11, while the weather is expected to stabilize from April 12 to 15.
The meteorological department has forecast strong winds, thunder, and hail during April 4, 7, and 8. Flooding, landslides, and waterlogging in low-lying areas are likely in sensitive regions. Farmers have been advised to halt agricultural activities during this period, and travelers are urged to plan their journeys according to the weather conditions.
