BJP Criticizes Telangana Government Over Rising School Fees

Hyderabad, April 4: The issue of rising school fees in Telangana is sparking outrage. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised questions about the state government’s handling of the situation. BJP leader T.R. Srinivas targeted Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, urging that school fees should not be treated as an annual forced collection program.

Srinivas spoke to a news agency, stating, “I want to ask Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao if he has heard about the increased fees in schools. Private schools are continuously raising their fees, causing difficulties for middle and lower-class families.”

He further emphasized, “People’s incomes are already low. Now, fees are increasing by 30 to 40 percent. Parents also have to buy books and uniforms, and pay for their children’s transportation. What kind of justice is this for ordinary people? How can middle-class families afford such expenses?”

The BJP leader questioned why the government is not taking action against the arbitrary fee hikes by schools. He also asked why government schools are not being upgraded. He urged Chief Minister Rao to ensure that school fees are not treated as an annual forced collection program and called for a structured approach to fee regulation.

Previously, K. Kavitha, the leader of the Telangana Jagruti Party, also raised concerns about fee hikes. She stated, “The state is under immense pressure as private schools are increasing fees by 25 to 30 percent every year. Students from grades 1 to 10 are promised that fees will only increase by a maximum of 10 percent annually, but many schools are charging much more.”
