Srinagar, April 4: Currently, there is no flood threat in Jammu and Kashmir. The Irrigation and Flood Control Department of Jammu and Kashmir released gauge readings up to 9 AM on Saturday, indicating that all rivers and streams are well below their danger levels.
In various sections of the Jhelum River, water levels are recorded as follows: 6.63 feet at Sangam, 0.53 meters at Pampore, 7.05 feet at Munshibagh, 4.83 feet at Asham, and 1574.08 meters at Wullar. These figures suggest that there is no likelihood of flooding in the main river, and water levels remain controlled.
Regarding the tributaries, readings show 5.21 meters at Vishu Nala in Khudwani, 0.33 meters at Rambiara Nala in Vachi, -0.10 meters at Lidder Nala in Batkoot, 1.80 meters at Doodhganga Nala in Barzulla, and 0.64 meters at Sindh Nala in Dodarhama. These streams are also below their warning levels, indicating no immediate flood risk locally.
However, the Meteorological Department has warned that due to a western disturbance, rain and snowfall in higher areas may continue over the next few days. Therefore, authorities and residents are advised to remain vigilant. Although current water levels are safe, continuous monitoring is in place to ensure prompt action in case of emergencies.
According to the weather department, moderate to heavy rainfall and snowfall in higher regions are expected in some areas on April 4. From April 5 to 7, the weather will be partially cloudy. Light rain and snowfall may occur in some places on April 8 and 9. On April 10 and 11, light rain or snowfall in higher areas may also happen. During this period, there remains a risk of sudden floods, landslides, and rockfalls in sensitive areas, along with potential waterlogging in low-lying regions. After this, from April 12 to 15, the weather is expected to stabilize with little change.
