
Mumbai, April 14: The police in Chatra district, Jharkhand, achieved significant success in their fight against drug trafficking for the second consecutive day. A raid conducted in the Lawalong police station area led to the seizure of a large quantity of illegal opium, poppy husk, and poppy seeds. The estimated value of the seized opium in the international market is around ₹1 crore.
Earlier on Monday, approximately ₹50 lakh worth of narcotics was confiscated from the Kunda police station area. Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar Agrawal shared this information during a press conference held at the district collectorate on Tuesday. The SP received a tip-off that individuals in Khakhar village of Rimi Panchayat were stockpiling illegal drugs in their homes, preparing to sell them to external traffickers.
After verifying the information, a special raid team was formed under the leadership of Simaria SDPO Shubham Kumar Khandelwal. The team raided the homes of Amarik Ganjhu, Manoj Ganjhu, Sarju Ganjhu, Madan Ganjhu, Vinod Ganjhu, and Pintu Ganjhu, recovering a substantial amount of narcotics.
In this case, FIRs have been registered against all accused under the NDPS Act at the Lawalong police station. The police are currently conducting operations to apprehend the suspects. The raid team included SDPO, NDPS station in-charge Shami Ansari, Lawalong station in-charge Chandan Kumar, SI Vidhay Prasad Yadav, and armed forces personnel.
On the previous day, police also raided a house in Batukuiya village of the Kunda police station area, where they seized approximately 840 grams of illegal opium, 3 quintals and 15 kilograms of poppy husk, and 35 kilograms of poppy seeds. The total value of the seized narcotics and equipment used for opium production, such as motor pumps, pipes, and pesticide spray machines, is estimated to be around ₹50 lakh.
SP Sumit Kumar Agrawal issued a stern warning that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in the illegal drug trade in the district. The police raids involved SDPO Simaria, NDPS station in-charge Shami Ansari, Lawalong station in-charge Chandan Kumar, Kunda station in-charge Prince Kumar Singh, and armed forces personnel.
