Satara, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Maharashtra’s Public Works Minister and descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Shivendra Singh Rajé Bhosale, stated on Monday that resolving the Maratha reservation issue requires more than just signatures from the Chhatrapati family. He emphasized the necessity of establishing a legal framework, navigating judicial processes, and fulfilling administrative requirements.
Bhosale urged Manoj Jarange Patil, a prominent Maratha reservation activist, to cooperate with the ongoing legal proceedings for reservation. Speaking to the media, he expressed that the state government is very supportive of granting reservation to the Maratha community. However, he warned against hasty decisions that could mislead the community, stressing that a legally robust reservation is essential to withstand judicial scrutiny.
He pointed out that without collecting all necessary evidence and completing essential administrative procedures, any reservation granted would not be sustainable. “This entire process must undergo the scrutiny of the Justice Shinde Committee, along with advice from retired judges and judicial investigations. It’s crucial to understand that this issue will not be resolved overnight, simply because a member of the Chhatrapati family signs off on it,” he stated.
In his appeal to Jarange Patil, Bhosale reassured that the government is committed to ensuring that the reservation is legally sound. He urged protesters to remain patient and provide administrative support during the ongoing legal process to secure permanent reservation rights for the Maratha community.
Bhosale’s remarks came after Jarange Patil announced an indefinite hunger strike starting September 19 in Mumbai to demand Maratha reservation. Standing firm, Patil called on the community to remain resilient. “We cannot allow the Maratha community to lose. Wherever my body falls, it falls. But we must fight with such pride that future generations can say we sacrificed but never backed down. I do not wish to die in vain; I want to die fighting for our rights. We must not diminish the dignity of our community,” he asserted.
Patil also warned the community to stay vigilant, targeting Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and accusing him of politically maneuvering to suppress the movement. “We must counter every move by Devendra Fadnavis. His strategy has been to discredit the Maratha movement under the guise of deities, incite riots through infiltrators, and then crush protests using police force. The Maratha community has no shortage of leaders. If one leader fails, another will emerge. We must vote for those who will secure our reservation. Personal preferences for any party or leader are meaningless if they cannot ensure a safe future for our children,” he added.
He concluded by stating that the 5.5 crore working Marathas could bring Mumbai to a standstill at any time, contrasting their influence with that of a small, wealthy, politically powerful minority.
