Imphal, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Manipur’s Chief Minister, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, has called for an immediate halt to corrupt practices in the regularization of contract employees. Speaking at the inauguration of various projects at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Porompat, he stressed that genuine service, dedication, and contributions should be the basis for considering legitimate claims for regularization.
The Chief Minister expressed concern over reports of alleged bribery related to the regularization of nurses. He emphasized that those who have served diligently, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, should not resort to corruption for regularization.
Khemchand Singh noted that over 200 nurses were appointed on a contractual basis to meet the growing demands of the healthcare sector during the pandemic. He urged nurses and other contract employees to present their genuine service and contributions to the government through proper, transparent, and lawful means.
He assured that the government would support employees who perform their duties with honesty, dedication, and dignity, and promised that legitimate concerns regarding regularization would be addressed through appropriate procedures. The Chief Minister encouraged employees to approach the government with trust and dignity, rather than resorting to bribery or other unethical methods.
Additionally, he acknowledged that the state is facing some economic challenges, leading to recent recruitments being conducted on a contractual basis. However, he emphasized that the practice of obtaining regularization through bribery must end immediately.
Khemchand Singh also recognized the immense responsibilities undertaken by doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers during the COVID-19 crisis and praised the health department’s efforts to strengthen the healthcare sector over the past four months.
