Tiruchi, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Tamil Nadu’s Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister S. Ramesh has accused the opposition DMK party of fostering a political culture filled with vulgar and derogatory language. Speaking to reporters in Tiruchi on Monday, Ramesh stated that while protests and demonstrations are fundamental democratic rights, political leaders should not exploit these opportunities for personal attacks or to use offensive language.
His remarks came a day after senior DMK leader A. Raja allegedly targeted Law Minister R. Nirmal Kumar during a protest. Ramesh emphasized that the use of obscene language, defamatory comments, and spreading falsehoods are ingrained in the DNA of the DMK. He noted that it would be surprising if the party’s leaders refrained from such language, asserting that they would continue to oppose this political culture.
Ramesh also accused former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin of encouraging such behavior within the party. He claimed that opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin frequently makes double entendre remarks and engages in low-level, derogatory criticism against ministers.
In response to a question about a former DMK minister’s alleged derogatory comment about Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, Ramesh warned that the government would take strict legal action against anyone making offensive remarks about the Chief Minister, women, or the general public.
He stressed that morality and restraint are particularly vital for anyone overseeing the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. Ramesh dismissed allegations from AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami that crimes against women have surged in the first three months of the TVK government. He argued that current law and order challenges are a result of failures from the past five years, asserting that the new government is taking steps to address systemic issues.
Ramesh likened the situation to how calm does not immediately follow the cessation of rain, indicating that the repercussions of corruption and administrative failures from the previous government are still being felt. He assured that they are working on reforms and will implement significant changes.
The minister highlighted the government’s initiatives to enhance women’s safety and improve law enforcement, including the establishment of a Singapore-style task force and a dedicated anti-drug wing. He also praised Chief Minister Vijay’s efforts to develop Tamil Nadu as a major sports hub and to elevate the recognition of the state’s talented athletes on an international stage.
