Bharatpur, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : The municipal elections in Bharatpur district concluded peacefully on September 14, 2026. In the counting of votes for the 235 wards across one municipal corporation and six municipalities, independent candidates triumphed in 152 wards. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 66 seats, while the Congress won 15, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) claimed 1, and the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) also took 1 seat.
District Election Officer Kamar Chaudhary reported that the vote counting took place at designated centers across all municipal headquarters, following the guidelines set by the State Election Commission. In the results for Bharatpur Municipal Corporation’s 65 wards, independents dominated, winning 36 wards. The BJP won in 20 wards, the Congress in 7, while the BSP and RLP each won 1 ward.
Although the BJP emerged as the largest party, it will need the support of independent representatives to form the municipal board. Notable independent winners included Karan Singh from Ward 1, Ambika Saini from Ward 2, Akash Nirala from Ward 3, and Arvind from Ward 4. Among the BJP victors were Jitendra Singh from Ward 8, Sudha Sharma from Ward 12, Manoj Singh from Ward 19, Neetu Singh from Ward 22, and Kiran from Ward 23.
In the Nadbai, Vair, and Bayana municipalities, independents also showed strong performances. In the Nadbai municipality, independents won 25 out of 35 wards, while BJP candidates secured 10. The Congress did not win any seats here. In Vair, independents took 20 of the 25 wards, with the BJP winning 3 and the Congress 2. In Bayana, independents won 22 of the 35 wards, while the BJP and Congress claimed 11 and 2, respectively.
The independent candidates’ influence was most pronounced in Bhusawar, where they won 22 out of 25 wards. In the Uchchain municipality, independents won 13 wards, with the BJP securing 11 and the Congress 1.
Overall, the election results indicate a significant shift in the political landscape, with independents winning 152 of the 235 wards. No party secured a clear majority in any of the six municipalities, prompting both the BJP and Congress to court independent councilors for support in forming the municipal boards. Political maneuvering for the chairperson positions is expected to intensify in the coming days.
