Mumbai, April 1: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met former Indian cricket team captain and head coach Ravi Shastri at his official residence on Wednesday. The meeting was announced by the Chief Minister on his social media platforms.
Fadnavis shared a photo with Shastri on his X account, expressing his delight: “It was a pleasure to meet the experienced cricketer and former head coach of the Indian cricket team, Ravi Shastri, at my official residence in Mumbai today. I am grateful for the special gift.”
During the meeting, Shastri presented Fadnavis with a copy of the book titled ‘India’s 71-Year Test: The Journey to Triumph in Australia,’ authored by R. Kaushik. This book highlights a remarkable chapter in the journey of Indian cricket.
The Chief Minister also mentioned the gift in his post, emphasizing its significance.
Ravi Shastri, a prominent figure from Mumbai, is regarded as one of the legendary all-rounders in Indian cricket history. Between 1981 and 1992, he played 80 Test matches and 150 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for the Indian team. Shastri scored 3,830 runs in Tests, including 11 centuries and 12 half-centuries, while also taking 151 wickets. In ODIs, he accumulated 3,108 runs with 4 centuries and 18 half-centuries, alongside 129 wickets. Notably, he was part of the Indian team that won the World Cup in 1983.
After retiring, Shastri transitioned into commentary, achieving significant success and becoming one of the most recognized voices in English commentary in India. He also ventured into coaching, serving as the head coach of the Indian team under captain Virat Kohli from 2017 to 2021. During his tenure, the Indian team was ranked first in ICC Test rankings and remained unbeaten in Test cricket. India also won a Test series in Australia during this period. Since stepping down from coaching, Shastri has returned to commentary.
