Ranchi, April 8: The Jharkhand unit of the BJP has accused the Hemant Soren-led government of financial mismanagement, stating that a significant portion of the budget remains unspent, highlighting the government’s failure. Party spokesperson Pratul Shahdev revealed that nearly 15% of the 2025-26 budget has not been utilized. He described this as a “cruel joke” on the people of a state already grappling with underdevelopment.
Shahdev pointed out that out of a budget of approximately ₹1.45 lakh crore, the government has managed to spend only around ₹1.23 lakh crore. This clearly indicates the government’s inability to effectively utilize available resources, leading to unnecessary pressure on the treasury.
He further alleged that spending levels in several key departments have been alarmingly low. According to him, expenditures in crucial sectors such as school education, rural governance, urban development, agriculture, and health have been confined to between 50% and 70%, signaling obstacles to developmental activities.
Shahdev emphasized that the government’s negligence is adversely affecting the general public, employees, and pensioners. Delays in pension payments and issues in salary distribution reflect the weak state of financial management.
He accused the government of failing to properly utilize resources received from the central government, subsequently citing financial crises as an excuse. Shahdev termed this a betrayal of the public. He asserted that timely implementation of schemes and effective budget utilization could have improved the state’s financial health. The BJP has called on the government to enhance financial management and prioritize expenditures that benefit the public.
