Mumbai, April 8: Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led central government on Tuesday. He accused the government of using Puducherry as a testing ground for policies that are detrimental to the public.
While addressing election rallies for candidates from the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, Udhayanidhi claimed that the BJP is steadily strengthening its political grip in the Union Territory through indirect means.
He argued that the party is attempting to consolidate its control over Puducherry, similar to its political strategy in Tamil Nadu.
According to him, the BJP’s growing influence in Puducherry is facilitated by its alliance with the All India N.R. Congress.
Drawing comparisons with Tamil Nadu, he alleged that the BJP relies on the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami, to expand its reach in the state.
Udhayanidhi further claimed that Puducherry is now witnessing the rise of divisive political ideologies. He stated that this is a land where politics of hatred had no place, but today, there is a systematic effort to change that fabric.
Criticizing the central government’s key policies, he warned that they could exacerbate social inequalities. He cautioned that such measures might have long-term effects on the region’s educational and social status.
Highlighting Tamil Nadu’s governance model, Udhayanidhi noted that under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s leadership, the state has resisted the BJP’s attempts to impose its ideological framework. He credited the Dravidian model for maintaining inclusive development and social justice.
