Jabalpur, June 24: The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued new guidelines aimed at promoting fuel conservation within the state’s judicial system. The court has urged judicial officials, court staff, and lawyers to make greater use of carpooling, public transport, and video conferencing to ensure that court operations remain unaffected.
These directives were released on Wednesday by the Registrar General under the orders of the Acting Chief Justice. The rules will be applicable across all district and subordinate courts in the state, including the main bench in Jabalpur and the benches in Indore and Gwalior.
According to the order, government vehicles associated with the courts will be used solely for judicial and administrative tasks. Officials have been instructed to develop transportation plans based on routes to optimize vehicle usage and minimize unnecessary fuel expenditure.
The High Court has stated that separate vehicle arrangements will not be provided except in special circumstances such as emergencies, security needs, protocol duties, or medical requirements.
Lawyers and staff have also been advised to adopt public transport, carpooling, and shared two-wheeler arrangements whenever possible. The use of shared transport facilities like mini buses and traveler vans has been encouraged on routes with higher passenger volumes.
Emphasizing the increased use of technology, the court has recommended that lawyers conduct arguments via video conferencing and hold administrative meetings virtually wherever feasible.
To enhance monitoring, the registry has been directed to keep daily tabs on the fuel consumption of government vehicles. Vehicle usage will be determined based on work necessity and priority, with periodic reviews.
The High Court has clarified that this arrangement is temporary and aims to promote fuel conservation in the country while ensuring the smooth conduct of judicial and administrative functions without disruption.
