Heavy Rain Alert Issued in Madhya Pradesh as Government Prepares for Adverse Weather

Bhopal, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for moderate to heavy rainfall across several districts in Madhya Pradesh. This alert, announced on September 4, includes forecasts for thunderstorms and lightning. Affected areas comprise Shyopur, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Guna, and Ashok Nagar.

In addition, districts like Agar Malwa, Shajapur, Rajgarh, Ujjain, Mahakaleshwar, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Dewas, and Indore are expected to experience light thunderstorms along with moderate rainfall. Rainfall intensity in these regions is anticipated to range from 5 to 15 mm per hour, with a 30-60 percent chance of lightning strikes.

Areas such as Sehore, Vidisha, Bhopal, Sagar, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Harda, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Burhanpur, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Betul, Singrauli, Sidhi, and Chhatarpur may see light rainfall, with intensity likely below 5 mm per hour and a lower than 30 percent chance of lightning.

The IMD has cautioned that heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging, traffic disruptions, damage to weak structures, and temporary impacts on power supply and communication networks. Similar, albeit lesser, disruptions are also possible in areas experiencing heavy rain.

Officials have urged residents to avoid traveling on waterlogged roads, stay away from weak trees and power poles, and refrain from seeking shelter under trees during storms.

In response to the forecast, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has directed all district collectors to remain on high alert. He emphasized the importance of preparedness and instructed district administrations to gather necessary resources, deploy staff, and ensure relief and rescue equipment is available to address any situations arising from the anticipated rainfall.

The Chief Minister particularly advised heightened vigilance on Friday and Saturday, especially in the northern parts of the state. He called on local administrations to remain fully alert and to implement all necessary precautionary measures without delay.
