Tragic Accident in Kerala Claims Lives of Eight Engineering Students from Tamil Nadu

Thrissur, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : A devastating road accident occurred in Thrissur, Kerala, resulting in the deaths of eight engineering students from Tamil Nadu. The incident took place late Friday night when the car they were traveling in collided with a stationary goods truck on National Highway 66 in the Kapamangalam area.

The crash happened in a construction zone where the truck was parked near a diversion created for ongoing highway work. The impact was so severe that the car was extensively damaged, trapping all eight occupants inside.

Local residents and rescue workers rushed to the scene upon hearing news of the accident. They had to cut through the wreckage to free the victims. Reports suggest that seven individuals died at the scene, while one more was transported to a hospital but could not be saved. Following the incident, police and emergency personnel sent the bodies for further procedures.

The victims were students from P.S.M. Engineering College in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. So far, five of the deceased have been identified, including 20-year-olds Vishwajit from Salem, Surya and Yuvasanjeet from Dindigul, and Santosh and Prasanna from Madurai.

Authorities are working to identify the remaining three victims and notify their relatives. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the collision, including the appropriateness of the truck’s placement in the construction area. Officers from the Kapamangalam police station arrived promptly to begin their inquiry, which will involve examining vehicles and gathering evidence from the scene.

This tragic accident highlights the ongoing large-scale construction and widening efforts on various stretches of NH-66 in Kerala, where temporary diversions and traffic restrictions are currently in effect.
