Washington, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : President Donald Trump characterized the ongoing tensions with Iran as a series of military conflicts rather than a full-scale war. He emphasized U.S. control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz and claimed that Washington has successfully prevented Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Trump made these remarks in response to a question about why Vice President J.D. Vance refrained from labeling the renewed hostilities with Iran as a war. He explained to reporters, “Many people don’t call it war. I refer to it as military conflict because it’s not a significant event for us.”
The president acknowledged that 18 American soldiers have died in these skirmishes but argued that the situation should not be compared to the lengthy wars in Vietnam and Afghanistan. “I would describe it as a sporadic event. We conduct strikes intermittently. We are not currently engaged in a full battle,” he stated.
When questioned about referring to the loss of American lives as a “minor issue,” Trump defended the five-month-long operation. He reiterated, “Iran will not possess nuclear weapons. We have prevented them from doing so.”
The president warned that the U.S. could launch further strikes if any activity is detected in a location he referred to as ‘Pikex.’ He stated, “We could strike Pikex very soon if anything is happening there. The U.S. is monitoring activities in Iran. If anything goes wrong, we will attack them, and we will attack them hard.”
Trump asserted that the U.S. military has destroyed Iranian radar, aircraft, and other equipment used for securing the Strait of Hormuz. He also mentioned that American minesweepers have removed explosives from this vital waterway, allowing oil shipments to pass through safely. “We have control over the Strait of Hormuz, and our control is very strong,” he declared.
Discussing military operations, Trump claimed, “We have taken control of Venezuela and, in effect, Iran as well.” He noted that there has been no gunfire for several days following recent U.S. attacks and suggested that if Washington were to withdraw its operations, it would take Iran 25 years to recover.
Trump expressed a desire to step away from the situation so that the next president would not have to worry about it, although he did not provide a timeline for ending the conflict.
In response to questions about China’s relationship with Iran, Trump revealed that he personally urged Chinese President Xi Jinping to refrain from intervening. “I told President Xi not to get involved. They are not really involved; China has very little participation,” he explained.
He pointed out that China receives a significant amount of oil supply from the Strait of Hormuz, but alternative routes, such as pipelines and overland routes from Syria, are emerging. “The Strait of Hormuz is no longer what it used to be. Now, pipelines are being constructed throughout the Middle East, so they don’t need to go through the Strait,” Trump concluded.
