New Delhi, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : On September 9, leaders across India paid tribute to Dr. Verghese Kurien, the father of the White Revolution and a Padma Bhushan awardee, on the anniversary of his death. Central ministers and chief ministers expressed their respect for his groundbreaking contributions to the dairy sector.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari took to X to honor Kurien, stating, “On the memorial day of Padma Bhushan Verghese Kurien, the father of the White Revolution in India, I offer my humble salutations.”
Pankaj Chaudhary, the Union Minister and President of the Uttar Pradesh BJP, also shared his thoughts on X, writing, “On the death anniversary of Padma Bhushan Dr. Verghese Kurien, the father of the White Revolution in India, I pay my humble tribute. His vision and dedication transformed the dairy sector, creating new opportunities for millions of dairy farmers. His contributions to the nation and farmers will always be inspiring.”
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed his sentiments on X, saying, “On the death anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien, known as the father of the White Revolution and the ‘Milk Man of India,’ I pay my humble respects. His transformative contributions toward making the country self-sufficient in milk production and empowering farmers will always be unforgettable and inspirational.”
Actor and MP Ravi Kishan shared a post on X, stating, “I bow and pay my humble tribute to Dr. Verghese Kurien, the pioneer of the dairy revolution and a great leader of the cooperative movement, who brought positive change to the lives of millions of farmers. The ‘White Revolution’ initiated under his leadership not only made India the largest milk producer in the world but also played a crucial role in empowering the rural economy. By establishing cooperatives like Amul, he paved the way for farmers to achieve self-reliance, leading to their economic prosperity. Dr. Kurien’s vision, dedication, and service to society will always remain a source of inspiration.”
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also paid tribute on X, stating, “On the death anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien, the father of the White Revolution and a Padma Bhushan awardee, I offer my humble respects! His historic contributions through the power of cooperation have empowered millions of farmers, especially rural women, to achieve economic independence.”
Born on September 26, 1921, Dr. Verghese Kurien is celebrated as the architect of India’s White Revolution and the ‘Milk Man of India.’ He played a pivotal role in transforming India into the world’s largest milk producer. Kurien led the Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union in Anand, Gujarat, which is now known as the Amul brand. In 1970, he launched ‘Operation Flood,’ the world’s largest dairy development program, which shifted India from a milk-deficient nation to the leading milk producer globally. Dr. Kurien passed away on September 9, 2012.
