Abu Dhabi, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : Abu Dhabi authorities are launching a comprehensive investigation into a recent incident involving a FlyDubai flight that almost resulted in a crash. The aircraft had taken off from Dubai International Airport, headed for Tel Aviv, when it was diverted and landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, following attempts by the pilot to bring down the plane. Reports suggest that the pilot involved was from Oman.
On Thursday, the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) issued a statement regarding the situation. This statement was also shared on the social media platform X. According to the announcement, Dr. Hamad Al Shamsi, the UAE Attorney General, has ordered the formation of a specialized team within the Public Prosecution to investigate the circumstances and causes of the incident. This decision came after FlyDubai revealed that there was an altercation in the cockpit, prompting crew members to intervene to secure the aircraft.
The ministry clarified that the authority to investigate the incident rests with the UAE’s judicial officials, as the aircraft is registered in the UAE and flies under its flag. Consequently, UAE laws apply to any crimes committed on board, regardless of where they occur.
MOFA emphasized that all aspects of the investigation are being thoroughly examined, including potential links to terrorist plots, premeditated plans, or directives from terrorist organizations. The UAE expressed gratitude to Saudi authorities for their cooperation in managing the incident.
The ministry also urged the public to rely on information from official sources and to refrain from spreading speculation or unverified reports until the investigation is complete and results are announced.
