Bengaluru, August 30: Union Heavy Industries and Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy criticized the Congress government on Sunday regarding alleged irregularities in the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPPSC) recruitment process. He also questioned the silence of Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Kumaraswamy’s statement comes in the wake of the arrest of IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar, linked to the KPPSC recruitment scandal.
He stated, “Rahul Gandhi, where are you? Irregularities are happening in KPPSC. You travel across the country talking to students and youth. When will you come to Bengaluru and meet the youth affected by the KPPSC recruitment irregularities?”
Speaking to the media at the Janata Dal (Secular) headquarters in Bengaluru, Kumaraswamy raised concerns about the Karnataka government‘s intentions to reform the recruitment system.
He remarked, “Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge talks about RSS every morning, yet he fails to see the chaos in his own department. Candidates who should not have been selected were allegedly given jobs. Can your (Congress) government truly clean up KPPSC?”
Kumaraswamy accused the state government of appointing a controversial figure with a questionable record as the KPPSC chairman under the guise of reform.
He said, “You claimed you would improve the system, yet appointed someone as KPPSC chairman who has faced allegations before. During his tenure, positions were allegedly sold for crores. Today, you talk about recruiting for 75,000 government positions. Will these appointments also be marred by similar irregularities?”
Kumaraswamy challenged Rahul Gandhi to visit Bengaluru, stating, “Bring him here. Let him sit with the youth and discuss the KPPSC issues; then the truth will come out.”
He expressed disappointment over the government’s reluctance to address the alleged irregularities in the recruitment of Assistant Executive Engineers (Grade-1) in the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department.
Kumaraswamy also alleged that exam question papers were reportedly taken to resorts and made available to candidates who paid for them.
He stated, “Allegedly, question papers were taken to resorts and given to candidates who paid money. They were also trained to write answers. Rahul Gandhi engages with students across the country. He should come to Bengaluru and discuss the KPPSC recruitment irregularities face-to-face with the youth.”
