Thiruvananthapuram, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : BJP national executive member Kummanam Rajasekharan has leveled serious accusations against CPI-M General Secretary M.A. Baby, claiming that he is waging a covert battle against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) out of fear of Sunni Muslim leader Kanthapuram A.P. Abubakar Musliyar. During a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, he challenged Baby to confront him directly regarding Musliyar’s controversial comments about women.
Rajasekharan stated that if Baby truly disagreed with Musliyar’s remarks, he should clarify his stance instead of dragging the RSS into the issue with “falsehoods” and “baseless allegations.” He criticized Baby for attempting to shift the focus onto the RSS rather than addressing the backlash against Musliyar’s views, which have faced widespread condemnation across Kerala.
Describing this maneuver as a “disgusting political hypocrisy,” Rajasekharan accused Baby of engaging in appeasement politics to secure minority votes. He emphasized that political interests should not distract from the contentious statements made by Musliyar.
Rajasekharan’s comments came after Musliyar urged his supporters and followers through social media to exercise restraint and avoid provocation. While he did not mention Baby or the RSS directly, Musliyar indicated that there are deliberate attempts to turn spiritual discussions into controversy and division.
He remarked, “The purpose of discussions should be to evaluate ideas fairly and learn new things.” Musliyar also warned those trying to twist such discussions into conflict and social division, urging his followers to respond with maturity and thoughtfulness rather than emotional reactions.
Musliyar reiterated that the Sunni tradition has always faced evil with goodness, encouraging his supporters to proceed with discipline and restraint. His social media post emerged amidst ongoing political disputes surrounding his remarks about women, which have drawn criticism from various sectors of Kerala society.
Instead of directly addressing the criticism, Musliyar’s latest message focused on how spiritual discussions are being misused to create division. Meanwhile, Rajasekharan aimed to keep the spotlight on the core issue, insisting that Baby should clarify his position on Musliyar’s comments rather than turning it into an attack on the RSS.
The BJP leader also accused the CPI-M of resorting to appeasement of minorities for electoral gains. He reiterated that if Baby disagreed with Musliyar’s views, he should openly express that instead of diverting the debate.
This controversy unfolds against a backdrop of renewed political debates in Kerala regarding gender issues, social reform, and communal polarization, involving the CPI-M, RSS, and various Muslim religious organizations. Rajasekharan’s remarks could add a new political dimension to the ongoing discourse, as the BJP seeks to highlight the CPI-M’s reluctance to confront Musliyar directly.
