Bhubaneswar, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : Odisha’s Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi addressed the state’s police officers on September 4, urging them to utilize the powers granted by the Indian Constitution responsibly. He emphasized the importance of delivering justice to marginalized communities during a graduation ceremony for the 13th batch of Cadet Sub-Inspectors at the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy in Bhubaneswar.
During the event, the Chief Minister congratulated 336 newly graduated cadet sub-inspectors who successfully completed two years of rigorous indoor and outdoor training. He expressed particular pride in the inclusion of 70 female sub-inspectors, viewing it as a positive sign of women’s empowerment and the evolving social landscape in Odisha.
Majhi stated, “Today is not just a day for a formal parade; it is a celebration of dedication, discipline, sacrifice, and excellence. The police uniform is not merely attire; it embodies the power granted by the Constitution and the significant responsibility to serve society. Every officer must use the authority of their uniform to ensure justice for the vulnerable.”
He called for the adoption of a ‘smart policing’ policy to enhance the effectiveness of the Odisha police. The Chief Minister shared three key principles for the newly appointed officers, emphasizing the state government’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards corruption. He urged them to maintain the highest levels of discipline and to avoid any misuse of their powers.
Majhi instructed the officers to ensure the protection of innocent individuals while ensuring that criminals face legal consequences. “Always remain vigilant so that no criminal escapes and no innocent person is harassed. Work with the mantra of ‘service and security,’” he advised.
He also highlighted the need for both industrialization and law enforcement to build a ‘prosperous Odisha’ over the next decade. The Chief Minister reiterated the importance of modernizing the police department and developing human resources within it.
Majhi announced the creation of 17,794 new positions in the police department, with 5,817 appointments made in the past two years. He mentioned that vehicles and fuel allowances are being provided to improve police station operations.
Additionally, he reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to making Odisha a drug-free state by 2029. During the ceremony, several cadets were honored for their outstanding performance in various fields.
The event was attended by several senior officials from the Odisha police, including Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Tosh Mishra.
