Chandigarh, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : The Punjab Congress has condemned the arrest of Mohanjit Singh Sidhu, who was detained for displaying a black flag at Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s convoy. Amarinder Singh Raja Wading, the president of the Punjab Congress, criticized the government’s actions, claiming that Mann has started to act like historical tyrants and believes he can govern indefinitely.
In response to Sidhu’s arrest, Wading has reached out to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), urging an investigation into the alleged mistreatment by Punjab police. According to Wading, after his detention, Sidhu was reportedly subjected to severe torture, including electric shocks.
Wading further stated that Sidhu alleged police officers forcibly administered drugs to him, which later tested positive in a drug test. He accused the Punjab police of filing a fabricated First Information Report (FIR) against Sidhu for drug use.
In his letter to the NHRC, Wading demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and called for strict action against the officers responsible for Sidhu’s alleged torture and the false FIR. He described this incident as a reflection of police brutality under Mann’s administration, which he claims has crossed all limits.
Wading, who is also a Congress MP from Ludhiana, emphasized that the party stands firmly with Sidhu. He mentioned that Pratap Singh Bajwa, the leader of the Congress legislative party, met with Sidhu on Friday, and he plans to visit him soon as well. Additionally, Wading announced that the Congress will hold a large protest against the Aam Aadmi Party government on September 8, citing widespread corruption.
When asked about senior leader Rahul Gandhi’s upcoming visit to Punjab, Wading stated that the dates are being finalized and will be announced shortly.
