Guntur, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) spokesperson Mahboob Sharif announced that party leader and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy will resume his padayatra in 2027. Sharif stated that Reddy himself confirmed plans for the march, which aims to address the issues faced by the youth, farmers, women, and students. He also called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into alleged irregularities in the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APDSC) recruitment process, particularly concerning appointments made under the sports quota.
Sharif highlighted that Reddy’s previous padayatra before the 2019 assembly elections covered approximately 3,648 kilometers, during which he engaged with locals to understand their concerns. Based on these insights, the Reddy administration has fulfilled many promises outlined in its electoral manifesto from 2019 to 2024. The upcoming padayatra is expected to commence around July 8, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, though Sharif noted that the date remains tentative.
The spokesperson criticized the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) coalition government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, for failing to deliver on pre-election promises made to the youth, farmers, and women. He stated that the public is now demanding accountability for these unfulfilled commitments. Sharif accused the government of attempting to silence voices that advocate for the people’s rights, expressing confidence that Reddy will return to power in 2029 to honor the promises made to the electorate.
Regarding the APDSC recruitment allegations, Sharif asserted that significant irregularities have occurred, especially in the appointments made under the sports quota. He urged for a thorough re-verification of the sports certificates and the selection process for candidates who secured jobs through this quota. Sharif emphasized that an independent CBI investigation is necessary to ensure transparency in the recruitment process.
He also targeted Education Minister Nara Lokesh, insisting that the government must be prepared to investigate these serious allegations. Sharif claimed that there have been discrepancies in the merit list and selection related to the sports quota. Using Kurnool district as an example, he alleged that some candidates received jobs through the sports quota without taking the necessary exams, highlighting this as a severe flaw in the recruitment process.
Sharif called for a re-verification of all candidates selected under the sports quota. He insisted that if any irregularities are discovered, stringent action should be taken against those responsible. The YSRCP is demanding a fair and transparent investigation into all allegations linked to the APDSC recruitment, asserting that several cases have already been brought to light, with more revelations expected in the future.
