Chennai, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Political parties supporting the Tamilaga Vetrikazhagam (TVK) government will convene for an important meeting on September 9 in Chennai. This gathering is anticipated to include the announcement of a formal name for the coalition and discussions regarding its future political structure.
Ahead of the meeting, senior leaders and ministers from TVK reached out to the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) to formally invite them to participate. TVK officials met separately with leaders from these three parties in Chennai.
The TVK delegation visited the state headquarters of CPI and CPI-M in T. Nagar, engaging in discussions with their respective state secretaries, Veerapandian and Shanmugam. They later met with MDMK General Secretary Vaiko in Anna Nagar. Nirmal Kumar characterized these meetings as courtesy calls, emphasizing that the leaders were invited to the discussions scheduled for September 9. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is also expected to attend.
Vaiko confirmed receiving an invitation from the Chief Minister and stated that MDMK would participate in the meeting.
This initiative holds significance as it follows the first meeting of parties supporting the TVK government, which took place on July 1 at a private hotel in Kovalam. Notably, CPI and CPI-M were absent from that gathering, which included Congress, VCK, MDMK, and the Indian Union Muslim League.
During the July meeting, discussions focused on transforming the existing arrangement of supporting parties into a larger political coalition capable of contesting elections together in the future. Topics included naming the coalition, forming a coordination committee, and developing a shared minimum action plan.
Veerapandian of CPI indicated that attendance at the September 9 meeting would depend on internal discussions within the party. He noted that leftist parties have supported the TVK government from the outside, respecting the public mandate, and would continue to advocate for issues affecting workers and the common people.
The upcoming meeting on September 9 is expected to provide greater clarity on the formation, leadership, and organizational structure of the coalition, as well as pave the way for a formal name announcement.
