New Delhi, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : The Congress party has announced a significant organizational reshuffle, appointing new leaders for various states as part of its strategy to strengthen the party ahead of upcoming elections. This decision was made on September 5, 2026, in New Delhi.
Sachin Pilot has been appointed as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Punjab. Randeep Singh Surjewala will take charge of Gujarat, along with additional responsibilities for Karnataka. Bhupesh Baghel has been assigned to Assam, Sukhu Dev Bhagat to Chhattisgarh, Srivella Prasad to Maharashtra, and P.V. Mohan to Andhra Pradesh.
The party clarified that Mukul Wasnik will remain in his role as General Secretary, with no changes to his responsibilities.
In a related move, Congress has also made a significant organizational decision in Himachal Pradesh. Following approval from AICC in-charge Rajni Patil and state Congress president Vinay Kumar, all Block Congress Committees and the District Congress Committee (DCC) in Kinnaur have been dissolved effective immediately. This includes the dissolution of the Block Congress Committees in Kalpa, Nichar, and Pooh, along with the Kinnaur District Congress Committee. A notification stated that these committees will be reorganized soon.
This reshuffle is seen as a crucial step for Congress as it prepares for the upcoming assembly elections, aiming to bolster its organizational structure in the states.
