Kejriwal Condemns Attacks on Opposition Leaders Amid Political Tensions

Mumbai, June 1: The political landscape in India is heating up as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal strongly condemned the recent attacks on opposition leaders, particularly TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee. The incident has sparked widespread debate, with some labeling it an assault on democracy while others blame the TMC for the unrest.

Kejriwal stated, “We vehemently condemn this incident. As seen on social media, a serious and disgraceful attack was made on Abhishek Banerjee. This is completely unacceptable. It has barely been a few days since their government took office, and they are already allowing or encouraging such attacks on people, especially those in the opposition. If this is happening now, what can we expect in the next five years? Was this why they were given power? Was this why people voted for them?”

In response, senior leader of the Samajwadi Party and national general secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav remarked on the situation in Mainpuri, saying, “Opposition leaders are being targeted, and such incidents are occurring at the behest of the government, involving MPs as well. This is unfortunate for everyone.”

Meanwhile, Upendra Kushwaha, an MP from the National Lok Morcha in Delhi, emphasized that attacking anyone cannot be justified, whether they are from the ruling party or the opposition. “In a democracy, there is no place for such attacks. If someone has something to say, there are appropriate ways and platforms to express it,” he asserted.

Krishna Hegde, a spokesperson for Shiv Sena from Maharashtra, commented on the incident, stating, “The attack on TMC General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee in West Bengal was sudden. People were angry due to illegal activities, hooliganism, and other issues that have now been curtailed. Their frustration spilled onto the streets, leading to egg-throwing and aggressive behavior towards Banerjee.”
