Bhopal, August 28: A tragic accident occurred in the Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh on Friday morning when a high-speed sleeper bus collided with a bridge wall, resulting in the deaths of four individuals, including the driver. Eleven others sustained injuries in the incident. According to police reports, the bus was en route from Kanpur to Indore.
Rajgarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Tolani stated that the accident took place around 8:30 AM at the Bhopal bypass bridge in Biawara. The bus lost control on a curve and crashed into the bridge wall.
Tolani mentioned, “Preliminary investigations suggest that speeding was a factor. The bus lost its balance on the turn and collided with the bridge wall. A thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.”
The impact was so severe that the windows of the sleeper coach shattered, causing some passengers to fall from the bridge while others landed on the bridge structure itself.
The bus was severely damaged. Local residents and police officers assisted in rescuing passengers trapped inside the vehicle.
All injured individuals were initially taken to the civil hospital in Biawara for treatment. Tolani reported that the condition of four injured passengers is critical, and they have been referred to Bhopal for further medical care.
The police officer added, “The critically injured passengers have been referred to Bhopal. The identities of the deceased are being confirmed.”
Among the deceased are a Station House Officer (SHO) and a cyber inspector from Bengaluru. Their identities are currently being verified.
Following the accident, police and administrative teams arrived at the scene to initiate rescue operations. Chaos and cries erupted as passengers were being extricated from the damaged bus.
Later, state minister Narayan Singh Pawar and SP Tolani visited the civil hospital in Biawara to inquire about the condition of the injured passengers. They also spoke with doctors regarding the treatment and status of the victims. The police have launched an investigation to determine how the bus lost control on the bridge.
