New Delhi, August 28: A devastating flood struck Nepal on August 26, resulting in over 450 confirmed deaths. In this challenging time, people from around the world are stepping up to help. Apple CEO Tim Cook has expressed his condolences and pledged financial support for relief efforts in Nepal.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Cook stated, “Our thoughts are with all those affected by the catastrophic floods and landslides in Nepal and Tibet. Apple is donating financial assistance to support ongoing ground efforts for relief and reconstruction.”
The severe flash flood occurred when a tributary of the Bhotekoshi River, known as Lhende, was blocked due to a landslide. The first area to be affected was the village of Timure, located near the Nepal-Tibet border.
Reports indicate that there had been no prior rainfall in the region, leaving residents unaware of the impending disaster. At the time of the flood, people were engaged in their daily activities.
In this difficult moment, India and other countries are extending their support to Nepal. India has been actively sending relief supplies in response to the water crisis.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced that the first shipment of 10 tons of humanitarian aid was sent to Nepal on Wednesday, followed by a second shipment of 37.5 tons on Thursday.
On Thursday, India dispatched 10 tons of humanitarian assistance to aid relief and rescue operations in Nepal. The Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, formally handed over the relief materials to Khadka Raj Paudel, Nepal’s Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation. This assistance includes essential supplies for those affected by the floods and landslides.
