Kanika Kapoors Journey: From Struggles to Love and Success

Mumbai, August 20: Kanika Kapoor captured hearts with her voice in “Baby Doll,” but her journey has been filled with ups and downs. Today, she stands as one of Bollywood’s most recognized singers, yet her path was not always smooth.

From a young age, Kanika had a passion for music. After marrying and moving to London, she became a mother and stepped away from her career. However, her love for music never faded. An interesting chapter in her personal life is that she proposed to her second husband, Gautam Hathiramani, not once, but twice.

Born on August 21, 1978, in Lucknow, Kanika grew up in a large family with a deep connection to music. She began learning classical music at a young age and sang for All India Radio. Long before gaining fame in Bollywood, she was already making her mark in the music world.

Kanika pursued music studies and moved to Mumbai to fulfill her dreams. However, life took an unexpected turn when she married Raj Chandok at the age of 18 and relocated to London. As a mother of three, her music career took a backseat, but she never completely abandoned her passion. She later shared that music always resided within her.

In an interview, Kanika revealed that instead of asking for a diamond or expensive gift for her tenth wedding anniversary, she expressed her desire to record a music album. She even converted her garage into a studio. Unfortunately, her marriage ended in divorce in 2012, prompting her to seek financial independence for her children. Kanika stated that this financial freedom gave her self-respect.

She made her comeback in music with “Jugni Ji” in 2012, but it was the 2014 hit “Baby Doll” from “Ragini MMS 2” that skyrocketed her fame. The song became immensely popular, earning her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer. Following this success, tracks like “Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan,” “Lovely,” “Desi Look,” and “Nachan Farrate” further solidified her popularity.

In a 2022 interview, Kanika shared that she and her husband Gautam Hathiramani had been friends for about 15 years, providing support during tough times. She first proposed to Gautam in 2014, shortly after “Baby Doll” became a hit. However, he initially thought she was joking. Undeterred, Kanika brought up the topic again in 2020, and this time, Gautam realized she was serious. Their love story officially began, culminating in Gautam’s formal proposal in August 2021 and their wedding in May 2022.

Before the wedding, Kanika felt apprehensive. Being divorced and a mother of three, she worried that Gautam or his family might not accept her. However, her fears were unfounded. Gautam and his family embraced Kanika, her children, and her parents. All three of her children participated in the wedding, with her son escorting her to the altar and her daughters by her side during the ceremonies.
