Mumbai, August 20: Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra has revealed exciting news about his upcoming film featuring actor Manoj Bajpayee. Although the title of the film is yet to be finalized, the director has stated that the story focuses on a crucial period in Mahatma Gandhi’s life during India’s struggle for independence.
The film aims to closely depict 21 significant days in Gandhi’s life amidst the backdrop of India’s freedom movement. This project marks Sudhir Mishra’s return to the big screen.
The narrative will intertwine major events of India’s independence with Gandhi’s personal journey. Discussing the film, Sudhir Mishra remarked, “This new film highlights an essential yet lesser-known chapter of history. It tells the story of 21 days in Mahatma Gandhi’s life during India’s fight for freedom.”
A notable aspect of the film is that Manoj Bajpayee will portray Mahatma Gandhi for the first time. Known for his diverse roles throughout his long career, this character is considered a significant challenge for Bajpayee. He aims to bring to life the human side of Gandhi, which is often overlooked in history books.
Sudhir Mishra elaborated, “At a time when the country was moving towards independence and Delhi was becoming the center of power, Gandhi made an unexpected decision. He chose to distance himself from it all. However, this was not a retreat; instead, he envisioned himself in a new light.”
Mishra added, “While history books document major events from that era, our film will unveil the story hidden behind those events. It will explore Gandhi’s thought process behind that decision and how he redefined himself as a leader.”
Actor Saurabh Shukla will also play a significant role in the film. The project is being produced by Anubhav Sinha, known for films like ‘Mulk’, ‘Article 15’, and ‘Thappad’. Anubhav Sinha and Narendra Hirawat are co-producing the film under the banner of Banaras Media Works, with NH Studios presenting it.
