Justin Rose Extends Lead as Sahith Theegala Slips at Torrey Pines

San Diego, February 1 – Indian-American golfer Sahith Theegala faced a setback on the third round, known as ‘Moving Day’, of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. After scoring 73, one over par, Theegala slipped from a tied sixth position to tied twentieth.

Playing on the South Course at Torrey Pines, Theegala managed three birdies but also recorded four bogeys. After impressive opening rounds of 66 and 69, Theegala now stands at 8-under par with one round remaining in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Justin Rose maintained his dominance at the top of the leaderboard. Delivering a steady and composed 4-under 68, Rose reached a total score of 21-under 195. This gave him a commanding six-shot lead after 54 holes, setting a new tournament record for the lowest 54-hole score. Rose had previously set this record in 2019, matching performances by Kyle Stanley (2012), Tiger Woods (2008), and Woody Blackburn (1985). Among these players, only Stanley failed to convert his lead into a victory.

Rose began the day with a four-shot lead and at one point extended it to eight shots.

Joel Dahmen from the United States carded a 4-under 68 to move into second place at 15-under. Dahmen, playing on conditional status this season, earned his spot in the event due to the two-course format. The Farmers Insurance Open serves as an important opportunity for him to gain FedEx Cup points and build momentum early in the season.

Regarding other players of Indian origin, Akshay Bhatia missed the cut after rounds of 76 and 69. Indo-Canadian golfer Sudeep Yellamaraju scored 71 in the third round following 74 and 67, and is currently tied for 45th place.

Brooks Koepka, returning to the PGA Tour, had a disappointing day despite solid ball striking. He struggled significantly with putting, missing a three-foot par putt on the par-3 11th hole which resulted in a double bogey. He also failed to sink a three-foot birdie putt on the par-5 9th hole. Koepka lost six putts inside five feet and finished with a 73.
