Jharkhand Approves World-Class Medical College with ₹4,189 Crore Investment

Ranchi, July 2: The establishment of a world-class medical college and hospital, ‘RIMS-2’, in Ranchi has been greenlit. During a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the project was approved with a budget of ₹4,189.42 crore. A Project Management Unit (PMU) named ‘Jagruti’ will be formed to ensure smooth operation and monitoring of the project.

IIM Ranchi will serve as a ‘Center of Excellence’ for the initiative, while the Xavier Institute of Social Services in Ranchi will assess the socio-economic impact. The cabinet approved a total of 27 proposals related to development, welfare, and administrative reforms.

Additionally, the cabinet has accepted a proposal to replace the MGNREGA scheme with the ‘Developed India – G-Ram-G’ initiative. This new plan aims to provide extra employment and work opportunities for primitive tribal groups, thereby strengthening the rural economy.

To streamline administrative processes, the state government has approved the ‘Single Administrative Officer’ system. This will be implemented in blocks and sub-divisions with fewer than 12 panchayats. Under this new structure, the state will deploy COs along with BDOs in 53 sub-divisions, while the remaining 164 larger blocks will maintain separate BDO and CO positions.

For the renowned Sultan Ganj-Deoghar Shravan Mela, the cabinet has approved the establishment of temporary police stations to ensure the safety of devotees and smooth traffic flow. A total of 28 temporary police outposts and 19 traffic outposts will be operational from July 30 to August 28, 2026.

To promote development and investment in Jharkhand, a major conference will be held in the national capital, New Delhi, on July 8 and 9. This national conference, titled ‘National Stakeholder Consultation 2026’, will be chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

The cabinet also approved the water-sharing formula for the Son River under the long-standing Bansagar project agreement between Bihar and Jharkhand. This agreement ensures that Jharkhand receives its full share of water, improving irrigation systems.

To enhance road connectivity, the cabinet has allocated funds for significant road projects. The important road between Dumka and Sahibganj will be upgraded to a two-lane road with pedestrian pathways, costing ₹221 crore. Additionally, ₹88 crore has been approved for another road in Sahibganj, and over ₹128 crore for connecting rural roads in Pakur with main roads and constructing new bridges.

The Simaria-Tandwa road in Chatra will also be improved with an investment of ₹33 crore. The road from Birsa Chowk in Ranchi to Dhurwa Roundabout and the police headquarters will undergo a complete makeover, featuring wider lanes, a dedicated cycling track, beautiful landscaping, and public amenities.

To enhance transparency in governance and integrity in public service, the Jharkhand government has made it mandatory for newly appointed government employees to take an oath of ‘Integrity and Confidentiality’ upon joining. The cabinet has approved the oath’s format.
