Washington, August 28: U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed the possibility of negotiations with Tehran, stating that American military action against Iran is far from over. He also claimed that Iran’s capabilities have significantly diminished.
Speaking to reporters, Trump noted that following recent confrontations, Iran is facing severe economic and military pressure.
“They are unable to even pay their soldiers. They are in a lot of trouble,” he said.
Trump emphasized that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz does not indicate that the U.S. will refrain from further military action against Iran. He reiterated that Iran is in a difficult position, with their capacity greatly reduced.
However, Trump did not provide details on any potential future actions or the conditions under which the U.S. might take military steps again.
He also rejected the possibility of immediate diplomatic talks with Tehran, stating that there is not much to discuss. “We are not looking for a meeting. The Strait of Hormuz is open,” he added.
His remarks suggest that despite the strategic maritime route reopening, Washington is currently not seeking to initiate talks. Trump has previously relied on military pressure, economic sanctions, and warnings of further action in dealing with Iran. His latest comments indicate that the U.S. administration wants to keep all options available.
When asked if he would take action against Moscow if Russia does not reduce its ties with Iran, Trump replied that it would depend on the circumstances. He believes that Russia has behaved well regarding the Strait of Hormuz so far. However, he did not clarify whether this assessment applies to other areas of cooperation between Russia and Iran.
He also did not specify what steps Russia has taken or if Washington has received any assurances from Moscow regarding this matter.
