Ishan Kishan Achieves Milestone with 1,000 ODI Runs Against Afghanistan

Lucknow, June 17: Indian cricketer Ishan Kishan, aged 27, scored a remarkable century against Afghanistan on Wednesday. This achievement places him fourth on the list of Indian players who reached 1,000 One Day International (ODI) runs in the fewest innings.

Kishan accomplished this feat in just 26 innings. Leading the list is Shubman Gill, who achieved the milestone in 19 innings. Both Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan reached 1,000 runs in 24 innings, while Navjot Singh Sidhu and Shreyas Iyer completed the milestone in 25 innings each.

In terms of balls faced, Kishan is now the sixth fastest player to score 1,000 runs, doing so in 966 balls. Hardik Pandya holds the record for the fastest, reaching the mark in 857 balls. Following him are Kedar Jadhav (936), Kapil Dev (954), Shubman Gill (954), and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (955).

Kishan completed his century in just 71 balls, making him the third fastest player to score an ODI century against Afghanistan. The record is held by Eoin Morgan, who achieved this in 57 balls in 2019. Rohit Sharma scored his century in 63 balls against Afghanistan in 2023, while Glenn Maxwell and Shubman Gill completed their centuries in 76 and 77 balls, respectively.

At the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Kishan scored 125 runs off 79 balls, hitting 7 sixes and 14 fours. He formed a significant partnership with captain Shubman Gill, adding 224 runs for the third wicket in 140 balls, helping Team India reach a formidable total.

After winning the only Test against Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs, India secured the first match of the three-match ODI series by 7 wickets. The team aims to clinch the series with another victory in this match.
