Bengaluru, June 9: Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Karnataka, Veerappa Moily, expressed his condolences over the passing of All India Congress Committee Secretary Suraj Hegde. In an interview with a news agency on Tuesday, he described Hegde as one of the party’s honest, dedicated, and hardworking leaders.
Moily stated that Hegde’s demise is a significant loss for the party. He noted that Hegde was the grandson of Devaraj, a senior leader within the party, but he never flaunted this connection. Hegde served as the Secretary of Congress for a long time and was known for his diligent execution of tasks assigned to him, never tolerating any laxity in his work.
When asked about the current differences within the India Block, Moily acknowledged that disagreements exist but emphasized that the coalition comprises 25 active parties. While differences among various parties are natural, they should not divert attention from core issues. He suggested that any state-level disagreements should not be discussed in meetings in Delhi, as these gatherings are aimed at achieving larger objectives.
Moily explained that it is essential to set aside past issues when uniting for a common cause. He pointed out that in Kerala, where the Congress is in the opposition, there are bound to be differences with the ruling party. However, during collective meetings, it is crucial to focus on the larger goals rather than getting bogged down by minor disputes.
He stressed that if leaders from all parties within the India Block engage in discussions about state-level political turmoil, it would hinder the achievement of their greater objectives. Understanding the purpose behind forming the India alliance is vital. If they become entangled in small controversies, they risk failing to accomplish their significant goals.
Additionally, Moily addressed the internal conflicts within the Karnataka government, acknowledging that disputes exist but cautioning against escalating them. He emphasized the need for dialogue among leaders to resolve issues effectively. Only through open communication can they pave the way for solutions.
