
Beijing, August 26: A devastating landslide struck the Chilon district of Shizang Autonomous Region around 10:30 AM on Wednesday, resulting in significant casualties and many missing individuals. The disaster originated from the Nepal side, impacting the Chilon port area.
In response to the incident, Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed deep concern and issued critical directives. He emphasized that the immediate priority is to locate missing persons, evacuate those in danger to safety, provide urgent medical care to the injured, and minimize loss of life.
Xi also stressed the importance of strengthening monitoring and warning systems, conducting scientifically informed rescue operations, and preventing further disasters. He highlighted that the current phase of flood control is crucial, urging all sectors and relevant departments to implement flood and storm prevention measures with utmost seriousness.
Furthermore, he called for enhanced risk assessment and mitigation efforts to protect the public and safeguard property from major and severe disasters.
