Raipur, August 26: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has targeted Congress’s proposed movement concerning tribal issues. He stated that the tribal community has recognized the party’s true intentions and will not be swayed by its tactics. The CM accused Congress of using the tribal society merely as a vote bank for decades.
While addressing the media in Raipur, CM Sai remarked that the people of the country and the Scheduled Tribe community have observed Congress for nearly 50 years. However, during this time, the party has failed to make serious efforts towards the development of the tribal community.
He emphasized, “If anyone has genuinely cared for the tribal society, it is the government of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee established a separate Ministry of Tribal Affairs for the development of Scheduled Tribes. Congress could have done the same, but it chose to exploit the tribals for votes.”
CM Vishnu Dev Sai noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the tribal community has received new opportunities for respect and development. He highlighted that Draupadi Murmu, a member of the tribal community, currently holds the highest constitutional position as President, which is a matter of pride for the entire tribal society.
He added that various schemes from the central government are reaching the tribal community. The Chief Minister mentioned that Prime Minister Modi has launched the ‘Dharti Aaba Tribal Village Utkars Campaign’ for the development of over 12 crore tribal people in the country. This initiative includes more than 600 villages in Chhattisgarh, focusing specifically on the development of marginalized tribes.
Sai further stated that the PM Janman scheme has been initiated for particularly backward tribes such as Korwa, Birhor, Baiga, Kamar, and Abujhmadia. This scheme aims to provide essential services like roads, electricity, drinking water, and housing in remote tribal areas.
He said, “Today, roads are reaching these communities, electricity is being installed in homes, water is being supplied through taps, and houses are being constructed for them under the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme.”
Continuing his critique of Congress, the Chief Minister asserted that no matter how many movements Congress initiates, the tribal society has already understood its political strategies.
This statement comes at a time when Congress is preparing for a statewide movement concerning tribal issues.
