Kathmandu, August 26: Flash floods in Nepal have caused significant destruction in the Rasuwa district. Reports confirm that seven people have lost their lives, and many others are reported missing. According to Nepal Tourism, a total of 291 foreign tourists are unaccounted for, including 105 Indian nationals.
The Nepal Tourism Department stated that 384 travelers went missing after a sudden flood in the Bhotekoshi River this morning. Initial reports indicate that among the missing individuals, 291 are foreign citizens.
Data provided by various tourism agencies shows that 59 Indians are missing from one location, while another site reports a total of 46 missing Indians.
In light of the situation, authorities have issued an advisory urging caution. As a precaution, the traffic police in the Kathmandu Valley have halted vehicles traveling from Kathmandu to Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, and Chitwan.
Travelers are advised to avoid disaster-stricken areas until official confirmation is received regarding the safety of the roads.
To assist in rescue and emergency operations, two helicopters from the Nepal Army have been dispatched to Rasuwa. Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has urged the public and travelers to refrain from unnecessary movement on affected highways and river routes. He has also appealed to residents and tourists near the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers, as well as those downstream towards Muglin, to remain vigilant until further notice.
The board has requested that stranded tourists remain calm. They are advised to avoid rumors, stay informed, and cooperate fully with local authorities. Additionally, it is recommended to refrain from traveling to disaster-affected areas for the time being.
