Beijing, August 26: China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) industry has exceeded 10 million units, marking significant growth during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025). This milestone was announced during a press conference by the State Council Information Office, which also highlighted the country’s plans for the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030).
The upcoming plan focuses on enhancing vehicle quality and the safety of autonomous driving. It includes multiple measures aimed at promoting high-quality development within the smart connected NEV sector.
During the previous five-year plan, annual sales surged from 1.367 million to 1.649 million units. The share of NEVs in total new car sales rose dramatically from 5.4% to 47.9%.
The entire supply chain associated with the NEV industry has also strengthened rapidly. China now holds over 70% of the global production of NEVs, power batteries, and key raw materials. Furthermore, the international influence of Chinese-made NEVs continues to grow, with exports reaching over 100 countries and regions.
In the 15th Five-Year Plan, China will emphasize improving the quality and supply of NEV products. Pilot projects related to smart connected vehicles will be carefully advanced. Additionally, enhancements to charging and other supporting infrastructure will be prioritized to improve consumer experience.
Shin Quoping, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated that China will enhance regulations and management within the industry. Quality inspections will be strengthened, consumer rights will be protected, and competition within the industry will be organized. Moreover, China aims to bolster international cooperation through bilateral and multilateral channels.
Efforts will also be made to better align with international standards, support cross-border logistics and investment, and contribute to the ongoing changes in the global automotive industry.
