Karnataka Youth Congress Leader Arrested for Blackmailing Businessman of ₹2.77 Crore

Mangalore, June 9: A shocking case of extortion has emerged in Mangalore, Karnataka. Police have arrested a Youth Congress official and his associate for allegedly blackmailing a prominent businessman and extorting ₹2.77 crore over nearly two years.

According to police, the accused have been identified as Nizam, the General Secretary of Mangalore Youth Congress, and his accomplice, Jitesh. Reports suggest that Jitesh initially lured the businessman into a trap and subsequently blackmailed him using explicit photos and videos. Police revealed that Jitesh initially demanded ₹35 lakh and threatened to show the videos to the victim’s wife. Fearing disgrace, the businessman paid the amount via cheque.

As the demands for money continued, the businessman sought help from Nizam. However, police allege that instead of assisting him, Nizam supported Jitesh and became involved in the extortion racket.

The duo then concocted a false story of suicide. In May 2024, Nizam informed the businessman that Jitesh had committed suicide, leaving a note naming the victim. To substantiate their claim, the accused showed photos of Jitesh’s supposed death and funeral, threatening to implicate the businessman in a criminal case.

Fearing arrest and social stigma, the businessman continued to pay. Police reported that between 2024 and 2026, a total of ₹2.77 crore was extorted from him. The fraud came to light in June 2026 when the businessman unexpectedly saw Jitesh alive in Mangalore. Shocked to find the person he believed to be dead, he promptly filed a complaint at the Urwa police station.

Based on the complaint, police arrested both Nizam and Jitesh. Further investigations are ongoing. Meanwhile, photos of Nizam with various political leaders from Mangalore and across Karnataka have gone viral on social media following the arrests.
