Himachal Pradesh Government Takes Firm Stand Against Re-Employment of Retired Employees

Shimla, April 7: The Himachal Pradesh government has adopted a strict stance against the re-employment of retired employees. The state government has imposed a ban on extensions, re-employment, and re-engagement across all departments.

On April 2, the government had decided to reappoint retired professors in government medical colleges, offering them a monthly remuneration exceeding ₹2.5 lakh. However, the new directive clarifies that such proposals will no longer be considered in other departments.

In a directive issued by the Personnel Department, Joint Secretary Neeraj Kumar instructed all administrative secretaries to refrain from processing or forwarding any appointment proposals post-retirement. The order explicitly states that no such cases will be entertained at any level.

Additionally, officials who have been granted extensions or re-employment will be automatically considered retired upon the completion of their approved tenure. Continuing service without formal permission is now prohibited.

The issued orders require immediate compliance from all departments. This move is seen as a significant step towards enhancing administrative transparency and strictness within the government.

Concerns have long been raised regarding the practice of repeatedly extending the service of retired officials. Critics have labeled it a means of “backdoor entry,” which affects new recruitment opportunities and raises questions about fairness.

According to sources, the government has also directed departments to review such cases, particularly those involving employees with complaints regarding their work ethic or integrity. If necessary, actions may be taken to terminate such services.

Following this order, a swift review of ongoing extension and re-employment cases across various departments is anticipated, potentially impacting a large number of officials currently serving on a contract, advisory, or extension basis.
